Near death experiences linked to sleep anomalies
Connections between out-of-body and near death experiences, and people who have unusual experiences when falling asleep or waking, have been found by Kevin Nelson and colleagues.
Apparantly they aren't that different. Out-of-body while dreaming is akin to taking a walk down the road while after-death is sort of a longer journey. At least that's how I understood it.
