moonshine

the colourless moon
stained blue and yellow
from hanging with the stars in a midnight sky
slowly droops, as his courage wilts

every now and then he smiles
down a shine
to charge the reflection below
so far away, floating on a uneven face of lead

no wonder it was distorted
does she really think
i look like that?
the wilting moon, tiring wonders:

i love you all
but the mountains call
if i leave today,
wouldnt you miss me at all?

i know that it would break her heart
and i know i could almost not bear to part
but at times, i get so tired
i cant wait for the tomorrow to start.

the stars will shine on
through the night
and the reflections
stand the test of time.

shadow so pure
so scared and clean
everything that he wanted to be
a better him. maybe he should just leave.

cold, leaden, unsmiling, uneven water
so far away. so changing
now giggling best friend. now cold heartless stranger
so far away. wouldnt even notice.

but from this night out
the road is long
and the path unmarked
and the end unknown.

the colourless moon
stained blue and yellow
from hanging with the stars in a midnight sky
slowly droops, as his courage wilts.

every now and then he smiles
down a shine
to charge the reflection below
so far away, she floats like lead

i love them all
but the darkness calls
if i leave today,
would'nt you miss me at all?

  1. Very beautiful.

The photograph reminds me of the Nick drake song "Pink Moon".

  2. Hey Pre,

It was interesting to see you started rhyming in the middle...makes it sound like the moon is singing. :) Great fun.

  5. I loved the imagery you create here. The play of colours and textures is very interesting. Of course, I loved the opening. Help me here... I didn't quite get the intent of the poem! :-( If it is but a description of the firmament one night, I think it is fine. I was lost in the sudden "her" and that had me move up and down figuring out who the moon is referring to. I didn't understand this: "and the reflections
stand the test of time" and wondered whether this "the way way is long" is a typo or something you intended and I missed. :-( Would love to discuss this with you...

Did you see the lunar eclipse a couple of weekends ago?

  11. This read like an enchanting earthly menagerie with many feelings striking a chord.

  12. What else? Hmmm. Why did the mountains' beckoning later become the hark of darkness? You know what... this is silly. I am sure it wouldn't be right to vivisect a poem thus. I liked the poem (and no, I am not being polite), but it is when I try to understand it that it kinda boggles me. Would be better to discuss this one misty morning over a cuppa rather than in writing! :-)

  14. That radioblog thing is really cool. It's an obvious idea that could really take off in a lot of different directions.

  15. It's serene, sure, but there's also this sense of...disquiet, if you know what I mean?

And, "wouldn't you miss me at all" reminds me of Syd Barrett :-)

    Really, really nice :-)

  18. This is not related to this post, but last night's Discovery T&L had this piece about Calcutta. Rather charming and it touched upon the adda culture (is the spelling correct?) and had this scene from India Coffee House... :-)

Got the intent of this poem... :-)

  21. Alexis, hey! Happy Birthday Dude! You play it close! Why werent you at CNV today? We were hoping for a bit of a celeb and all that :)

I'm glad you liked the rhyming. To be perfectly honest with you, I kind of stiched 2 pomes into one :D

AmitL, thanks sweet! as for the inpriration, lol - dont ask, you dont wanna know - when all else fails, there's always the moon, isnt there? ;0)

Jerry, thanks dear. I aspire to them ;) Just Kidding - well, so is everything you write :)

Olivia, thank you sweets! No I didnt :(

Ô¿Ô, hey hey hey! :) nice to see you here

"enchanting earthly menagerie" sounds so pretty ...

"many feelings striking a chord" sounds scary. which ones? tell
    me ... :)

Eroteme, the mountains call ... the moon wants to go to the mountains - you know how in picture the setting moon seems to dissapear into the mountains? the moon wants to go home and for good.

hark of darkness, again analogy with night (not ours - the moons) sleep etc - so the moon is basically sleepy so it says the beds calling me, my dreams are calling me .. etc ... lol ... yeah sounds crap cut up, doesnt it :D

I'm glad it does boggle you though - lol - dread to think anyone would understand it ;) just kidding!

misty morning and a cuppa ... anytime :)

Awareness, Thank you :) Van Morrison? Wow!

Verlaine, yeah, isnt it! awesome :)
Yup ... thank me - I wished it into existence - been working on it (the wishing) for about a year now :D

    (just kidding)

GhostOfTomJoad, disquiet is right. its not serene at all :)

"wouldn't you miss me at all" yes - always madcap - where would i go without him ... my obsession

he could be the moon, couldnt he?

    Thanks :)

    Gabby, thanks :D
