the park on a sunny saturday afternoon

its late on a saturday afternoon. the sun is out and there are multicoloured children and dogs everywhere. everyone is happy and playful and contented. every now and then a new kind of bird comes along and hops around, before it flies away again. overhead the trees wave filigree fans in the soft breeze. the grass is dotted with little flowers. the sun is bright and beautiful, and just right. the sky that it bears the sun is soft and blue and bright and everything is perfection. if there are clouds, they are so far, that you cant really see.

so i sit here in this beautiful corner of the park, watching the strange sunlight fall all around me. like pan the mad god, he changes and moves with every minute. the light tumbles down, on the grass, in the tree's, on the hills. its easy to feel like it will stay, like the sun itself is falling. but the sun never falls, really. nor stays in one place forever. however beautiful the place is. after a few glorious days of sunshine, its easy to fall in love with the warmth; to resentfully miss it, when it moves, yet again. the park corner gets a shade colder and darker. and a little lonelier, even with the hordes of smiling friendly people.

there's nothing to say really, when you dont want to give it away. everything general, oblique and carefully cryptically secretly profound, has been said already. keeping secrets tires me. what if we just told the truth? maybe we could if we knew it ... today, i miss you both. one who is far away and one who is so distant. i dont know what i would do with it if the distance melted, but i for now, i miss it.

the movie last night had a reference to "follow your bliss". obedient to the recalled instructions, i close my eyes and remember my last 'bliss', but resurface with a random one. it was a while ago, walking in old lanes, very near here, back warm with the sun. thinking nothing really, but nice thoughts cushioning the moment, somewhere around in the head.

this line from 'in the mood for love' stayed with me. 'we will not be like them'; and like good resident lines, it keeps coming back in different contexts. i dont want to be like them. i dont want to mourn the most glorious thing i ever felt, to complain, find faults, bargain, measure and cry over. i am happy with having found one source for all things bright and beautiful. you would be happy with what you get, if you expected nothing.

yet the irony that underlies all things makes a sharp edge to tread the walk of life on. however vaguely friendly and lukewarmly impersonally the sun shines down on you, its nice to have it within your horizon somewhere, even when it is not in your eye. when it goes away, carried by the wind, the moon, even if there is no rain, dews a slight coat of moist down on the world, which slowly over time freezes to frost. but another tomorrow, there will be another day, with the same sun, till such time that time and change dont take it away. i am glad i know that, for me, this is the final destination, the one. or so it seems for now. it feels good to be back home in edinburgh.

i used to love this song. i think it was written by dylan (not dylan thomas, whoever he was), but i'm not sure. i first heard it in 'hope floats'. this is an awful version, but the only one i found online!

Everywhere is You, You are in Everyone (misc random thoughts - school of divinity library, sanctuary)

ost - phish - silent in the morning

i trust their written word
and adore their flights of thought
but will not follow everywhere
that they roads of their reason walk
how can i not believe in you,
how can i let you go?
you're everywhere to me,
you're in everyone.
silently you talk to me.
i carry your smiles and frowns.
steadily you walk by me
i talk to you all day long

when i see your face
something inside, bursts into a song
of happiness and faith
i dont know where it comes from
i dont know why it does
its terribly hard, to hold it back
reign it in with
the leash of reason and control
how can everything be so beautiful?
even every tear ...

i have lived with you for many years now
by now you should be old
but your wonders never cease
yet i cant imagine doing without
the last time, i said goodbye
it almost broke my heart
every you, every part, is beautiful
every day, every corner, is new
each day, you still show me a new face
how can i not love you,
though you belong to me,
but someone else?

can you learn to love without desire?
can i learn love like the breeze?
can ever i stop feeling this way?
can i ever live somewhere else?
can you ever find the answers
that youre most looking for?
can you ever not find the answers
that youre most looking for?
keep listening, keep looking,
the are everywhere.

The morn is up again, the dewy morn,
With breath all incense, and with cheek all bloom,
the clouds away with playful scorn,
And living as if earth contain'd no tomb,
And glowing into day: we may resume
The march of our existence: and thus I,
Still on thy shores, fair Lemon! may find room
And food for meditation, nor pass by
Much, that may give us pause, if ponder'd fittingly.

amused, by the playfully bright colours, in the air, all around
fascinated, by ur narrow winding lanes
glam-struck, by your casual elegence, and
heartbroken, as I say goodbye, or get ready to ...

It rained sometime during the night. When I woke, the windows were glittering with little drops of rain. The sky was the pale blue of the very early morning. It looked damp, like eyes that have just finished crying. The roads, black stone paved, were wet and shining. Everything looked clean, and fresh. There was a bird song floating down from somewhere nearby. And a cool wind, just cool enough to feel fresh and clean. New snaps up at Flickr!

I love the early mornings. Before the world wakes up. You feel like you are the only person in the world and its all yours. Its that time of the day when it the word alone never stings. or mocks. It sings.

Whatever had built up till now has been washed away in the night, and for a while life feels clean, new and virgin, and everything seems possible again. Like a brand new start. You forget not to believe. You forget all the lessons like has taught you, and feel brave enough to start again.

I put on the coffee, and the smell fills the little kitchen as it gurgles. I lean my face on the glass of the window and it feels cool to touch. Outside, the little shimmering drops are fading as the sun warms up and dries them. Slowly, people wake up and voices fill the air. The stark emptiness fades like the drops of rain. I wake up and go look in the mirror. And start to wear my day-self again.

**This post reminded me of floating on wet winds: an old post from Ricercar. And of this: "the sky cried all night. in the morning, he turned his face up to me, like a little boy who has let it all out in a heavy shower of tears. Light. Still wet. A little tender. Almost unbearably sweet. I have this silly urge to smile at everyone I see"

If you zoom in, really close, this City, these rocks, these waters, these clouds, they are craggy, rougher, choppier. The greens are not so smooth and lush. The hills are not such elegent swoops of a divine plane. The waters are sometimes blue, sometimes grey.

If you zoom in, even closer, this City, is still breathtakingly beautiful; heart-taking-ly beautiful. Watch your Heart in Edinburgh: They lose easy.

Magic Wednesday: Suddenly there's magic, in the air ... I'm back. With a Bang. Its raining, the worlds wet, shining and silver. These old stones streets, polished, glimmering, stoic, but smiling ... always there, always standing, always steady ... lending perspective, holding you up, to a cerullean, rain drenched, sweetly smiling evening sky. Song in my head: #1 Crush ... I think I have a crush on this city :)

Now I'm back. 3 weeks flew. So much happened. So much to say! The words are sticky and I cant get them out, or even find them. Here, its cold and dark and wet. And very very quiet, alone in that house.

Mom claims I spent it all at Roxy. Tollys in the sun watching dad play golf while we wolf endless grub and bear, Roxy at night with Juls, Chatts. Catch up with Ad after work everynight that I could threaten, beg, bargain him into coming over, 15 Park Avenue, cuddling into the Big Bed with Mommy in her room everynight (after loads of emotional blackmail) and then running away when she starts to snore, SPE - Hip Pocket - playing Baba O Reilly and the Hot Hot Hot Georgies Uncle, Early Morning to Early Evening sessions watching Shiv Kumar Sharma at Ram Krishna Mission, a mini blog meet, last minute errands - snaps of Park Street by night, 'chhele dekha's, 'chhele dhhora's, drives down RajarHat, lots of sisterly bonding, Long Island Ice Teas with Guava Juice (Fantasy Island), rose aylmer in the night, some shopping, being wowed by the new Office, being wowed by Rimi & Teleute & Ani (Very very cute kids), and even more bonding with Barbie, Rahul & Hamza, Hosting dad's birthday, a wedding, the big crush, an all night steamer party, meeting an old ghost after years and laying to rest a new ghost: tribeni, mid river, a swaying boat, shadows of mommy and barbie, standing a little way away, unreachable, and the water rushing up to meet us: me and you, a spider web in grey and red ... i'll never let you go. For 3 long, fleeting weeks, u r 'barra baby', didibhai, di, bebu, pogie-sister, motu, pre, prero, fatts, mummy, baby, sweets ... then with a thud ur back to plain old Prerona again: nobody's nobody, the Rock (with my books, and my music, and my poetry around me)

I'm still dazed from my journey. Hopefully, will write more once I'm sorted. Had to leave the Suitable Boy behind. Bought Shalimar (the clown) instead at the airport. Unexpectedly good, though like Marquez & Morrisson, I dont like the style and find it very hard to read. I tend to skim through most of it looking for the gist of things. Too ornate ...

Went for my morning run - it was Awesome! Took a new route. Went towards Leith. I like Edinburgh, but I love the old buildings and streets of the Old Town. The full moon from last night still hung around, when I left. Being around Princes Street feels like being in the centre of one of those old houses with a huge open courtyard in the middle - you can see the sky lighten, shade by shade; you can see the stars dim, bit by bit. Had a lot of prose flowing in my head, will put it down sometime soon - as soon as I get a chance! I will miss Edinburgh :)

I have finally changed my 'running CD' from Kill Bill to Love Actually. Its quite nice. So the song that stuck in my head today is 'the trouble with love is' ... and the trouble with making a fool of yourself is that you can never see where you're going till its too late ;)
